GTA 6 comes out on 19 November 2026

Grand Theft Auto VI launches on Thursday, 19 November 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar announced the date on 6 November 2025. It has not announced a PC version or a date for one, and the game isn’t coming to PS4 or Xbox One.

The game is set in Vice City, in the fictional state of Leonida. Rockstar’s 2 leads are Jason and Lucia, caught in what it calls a criminal conspiracy that stretches across the state. Its second trailer drew 455 million views in its first 24 hours, IGN reports, a record that stood until March 2026.

2 editions: Standard at $79.99, Ultimate at $99.99

Take-Two announced both editions when pre-orders opened on 25 June 2026. The Standard Edition is $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition is $99.99. Ultimate adds a collection of premium vehicles, weapons and clothing. Every copy bought before 20 November also gets the Vintage Vice City Pack, and digital pre-orders add a free month of GTA+.

Pre-orders are open on the PlayStation Store, the Xbox store, the Rockstar Store and at retailers. Amazon’s listing for the game is under Grand Theft Auto VI.

The boxed copy is a code, so any current console works

The physical edition is a code in a box, with no disc inside, according to Rockstar and Take-Two. That means a disc drive gains you nothing for this game. A digital-only console plays it the same as one with a drive.

Which console to buy for it

Buy the console your friends play on, so you can play together online. On PlayStation that is the PS5 from Sony. On Xbox it is the Series X from Microsoft, or the smaller Series S.

Sony is selling 2 GTA VI Limited-Edition DualSense controllers, in black and white, at $84.99 each from 19 November. Pre-orders opened on 10 September. Search for them under GTA VI DualSense.

A standard DualSense does the same job for a second player. The DualSense Edge adds back buttons and swappable sticks. On Xbox, the Wireless Controller is the second-player pick.
