Black Friday Laptop Deals 2026: The 3 Specs That Decide
A laptop discount is only a saving if the machine is still usable in year 4. Memory, processor generation and storage settle that, and a low price on the wrong 3 is how a laptop gets replaced in 18 months.
This guide is research-led: we have not handled these units ourselves. If you buy through our links we may earn a commission — it never changes a pick. How we choose
The 8 laptops here are ranked by rating, then by how many owners rated them, read on 10 October 2026, as How we choose describes, and each is read against the 3 specifications below. Nothing here was handled or benchmarked.
Laptops are one of the few categories that reach an annual low in late November, and the reason is unglamorous: a new generation ships, and the outgoing one has to leave the warehouse. Black Friday is 27 November 2026.

Memory is the specification that decides how a laptop ages
16 GB is the working floor. 8 is enough for a browser and a document today, and it is the figure that makes a machine feel slow by year 3, as software grows into whatever is available.
Check whether it is soldered. Most thin laptops solder memory to the board, so the number you buy is the number you own for the life of the machine. A socketed machine can be doubled later with 1 added module.
That single question separates a cheap laptop that lasts from one that becomes unusable. It is rarely on the listing and it is always in the manufacturer’s own service manual.
| Memory | Realistic life | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 8 GB soldered | 2 to 3 years | The most common regret |
| 8 GB socketed | Upgradable | Buy and add later |
| 16 GB | 5 years or more | The sensible floor |
| 32 GB | Beyond the machine | Only for real workloads |
Dell 16 Plus Laptop, QHD+, Core Ultra 9, 32 GB
QHD+ and 32 GB, the pairing that makes a machine last, on 121 ratings.

| Memory | 32 GB |
|---|---|
| Panel | QHD+ |
32 GB paired with a QHD+ panel is the combination that outlasts the rest of the machine, and the reason to spend up rather than a badge on the lid. Owners say it handles many apps smoothly and praise the screen; the complaint is too few USB ports and no SD card reader.
Buy it if
- You keep laptops for 5 years
- You work on the screen all day
Don't buy it if
- You need many ports or an SD card reader
The Lenovo Business 15.6 is the best-rated Windows laptop here, 4.6 across 1,416 ratings, and it ships with 8 GB. Owners say it performs well, sets up easily and has a bright, clear screen. Battery life and durability split them. That rating is earned on today’s workload; the memory table above is about year 4.

A MacBook is the best-rated laptop for 2026
The 2026 Apple MacBook Air with the M5 chip rates 4.7 across 1,179 ratings, the highest here. Owners say it handles everything without slowing down, praise the screen and the build, and 1 reports going 2 to 3 days between charges. Apple builds the memory into the chip package, so choose the configuration at purchase: it cannot be added later.

The processor generation matters more than the tier
An Intel Core 5 or a Ryzen 5 tells you the tier. The number that follows tells you the generation, and a current mid-tier chip routinely outperforms a previous flagship while using less power.
That is why the November discount is on last generation. The machine is not worse, it is superseded, and superseded is the only thing retailers reliably clear.
Read the full model string rather than the family name. Two laptops both advertised with a Core 5 can be several years of silicon apart.
Entry-tier chips are a separate matter. A Celeron or an equivalent is built for browsing and documents, and no amount of memory changes that.
HP Stream 14, Celeron N150, 16 GB
1,850 ratings, the most here, and the processor is the part to read carefully.
Current price shown on Amazon. We may earn a commission.
| Processor | Celeron N150, entry tier |
|---|---|
| Memory | 16 GB |
| Suits | Browsing and documents |
1,850 ratings, the most here, pairing 16 GB of memory with an entry-tier processor. Owners like it for school and work and like the compact size; speed splits them, which is the Celeron talking. For a child’s first machine or a second laptop for email, that is a reasonable trade.
Buy it if
- A second machine or a first for a child
Don't buy it if
- This is your only computer
Storage: the type matters more than the number
Any SSD is far faster than any hard drive, and the difference is what people mean when they say a machine feels fast.
Capacity is the easier problem. External storage is cheap, and a 256 GB SSD with an external drive beats a 1 TB hard drive for everything you notice.
Check whether the drive is replaceable, for the same reason as the memory. An M.2 slot means a bigger drive in year 3 is a part swap, not a new laptop.
Dell 15.6 Laptop, AMD Ryzen 5 7520U
241 ratings at 4.3 on a mainstream Ryzen machine, the tier where a discount changes what you can buy.
Current price shown on Amazon. We may earn a commission.
| Processor | Ryzen 5 7520U |
|---|---|
| Screen | 15.6 inch |
241 ratings at 4.3, on a mainstream Ryzen chip in a 15.6-inch body, the tier where a November discount changes what you can afford rather than which colour you get. Owners call it good value, fast and easy to set up.
Buy it if
- General work and study, not gaming
- You want a full-size machine
Don't buy it if
- You want many owner reports
Buy a laptop that ships with Windows 11
Check that the listing names Windows 11, as the Dell 15.6 above does in its title. A clearance listing that still says Windows 10, or does not say, is the one to skip.
The panel is what you actually look at
A laptop’s screen is the component you stare at for the whole life of the machine, and it is where manufacturers cut to hit a price.
Resolution below full HD on a 14-inch panel is visibly coarse. Brightness under about 250 nits is hard to use near a window. Panel type decides whether colours shift when you tilt the lid.
Listings frequently state resolution and omit brightness entirely. Where brightness is missing, assume it is not a selling point.
HP 14 Laptop, 4-Core, AI Copilot
480 ratings at 4.2 on a 14-inch student machine, the size that gets carried rather than left on a desk.
Current price shown on Amazon. We may earn a commission.
| Screen | 14 inch |
|---|---|
| Cores | 4 |
| Suits | Study and light work |
480 ratings at 4.2 on a 14-inch machine, the size that gets carried; a 15 or 16-inch laptop is a desktop that folds. Owners like the look and say it suits school and office. Reliability splits them, with some reporting it stopped working.
Buy it if
- It goes in a bag every day
Don't buy it if
- You edit video or compile code
Where a discount cannot help you
Alienware 16 Aurora Gaming Laptop, RTX 5060
162 ratings at 4.2, a discrete graphics machine, the one category a laptop cannot be upgraded into later.
Current price shown on Amazon. We may earn a commission.
| Graphics | NVIDIA RTX 5060 |
|---|---|
| Processor | Intel Core 7 240H |
Discrete graphics is the 1 specification you cannot add later. Memory can sometimes be upgraded and storage usually can; a graphics chip is soldered to the board for good.
162 ratings at 4.2. Owners say it games well and note the 3K screen. Battery life and reliability are the complaints, with reports of crashes. Buy it if games or GPU work are the actual use, not in case.
Buy it if
- Games or GPU work are the actual use
Don't buy it if
- You mostly write documents and browse
What to do before 27 November
Decide the 3 specs first: 16 GB, an SSD, and a processor generation you have looked up. Then wait for the machine that meets them to discount, rather than buying whichever machine is discounted.
Check the price history rather than the badge, which how to spot a fake discount sets out, and note that laptops are one of only 2 categories that bottom out in late November. The return window matters more than the warranty, for reasons in what a warranty actually covers.
