AirPods 5 now cancel noise, even at the entry price
Every AirPods model Apple sells in 2026 has Active Noise Cancellation. The base AirPods 5 give 4 hours per charge with it on and 20 hours with the case, and Apple rates their noise cancelling at up to 1.5 times that of AirPods 4. The cut is in the controls: a force sensor on the stem, but no swipe for volume.

The AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case add 3 things over the base pair: volume swipe on the stem, 5 hours per charge instead of 4, and a case that charges on a Qi pad or an Apple Watch charger. Apple lists them at IP57 for dust, sweat and water, and the case has a speaker so Find My can ring it. For calls, a commute and the gym, that is the whole job.

The AirPods Pro 3 are the step up for quiet. Apple rates their noise cancelling at up to 3 times that of AirPods 5, and the battery at 8 hours per charge, 24 with the case. They add 2 things no other model here has: heart rate sensing during workouts, and Apple’s Hearing Test, Hearing Aid and Hearing Protection features. The MagSafe case carries Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip and a lanyard loop.

The AirPods Max 2 run 20 hours per charge with noise cancelling on, the longest of any model here. They are the only AirPods that play lossless audio, and only over a USB-C cable. A Digital Crown sets the volume. Apple lists no water resistance, so they belong on a desk or a long flight, not at the gym. They come in 5 colours.

Wired EarPods with USB-C still earn a drawer
Apple still sells wired EarPods with a USB-C plug, with an in-line remote and microphone. They need no charging and no pairing. They do 2 jobs well: a spare for flights, and a backup for calls when the AirPods are flat.

What lost: renewed listings and the older AirPods 4
The search for AirPods brings up renewed AirPods 2, AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro listings beside the new ones. The renewed AirPods 2 had the weakest owner reception of any AirPods listing in the search, and the older models lack what the AirPods 5 add, so none is listed here.
